On hand to welcome guests were Therapie MD Philip McGlade and managers Katie McGlade and Sinéad Downey. Philip said the Cork store en- joyed a great first year in business. He said it had been a huge suc- cess and they currently employ 50 people between the two businesses — Therapie and Optilase. The first anniversary celebration was held on the same day that it was revealed that Apple is to take over 2,300 square metres of offices near Opera Lane, which could accommodate up to 350 em- ployees. Philip said this would be another boost to the prime retail hub. He said despite the economic doom nationally, Cork was the best performing county in Ireland.

Joining Philip was Munster Rugby star Doug Howlett, who recently had eye laser surgery at Optilase. He was raving about the results, having just undergone his one-week check-up, and said the move had been life changing. He joked there was now a queue of team mates lined up to follow him.
