How does laser hair removal work?

The medical-grade laser emits wavelengths of light which is absorbed by the pigment in the hair (melanin). If the surrounding skin is relatively light compared to the colour of the hair, then the entire energy of the laser will be concentrated in the hair shaft, effectively destroying it without affecting the skin or follicle. This is why laser hair removal works best on light skin and dark coarse hair, which has the most pigment.

What about fair hair?

Red heads and blondes can also avail of laser hair removal at Therapie Clinic with the revolutionary MediLase system. This treatment uses pure ultrasound to remove all hair colours permanently and is ideal for removing hair on sensitive or pigmented areas such as eyebrows, ears, nose, nipple and upper lip.

Treatment required?

At Therapie Clinic, the first step is a free consultation and patch test to ensure you are compatible to laser. At this stage we will also discuss cost and a payment plan to suit your needs. A minimum of six treatments is generally recommended depending on the area to be treated but our results and client testimonials speak for themselves. Most clients book in for one area but invariably upgrade and come back for more… effectively throwing away the razor!

Different treatments to choose from

 
Due to its intimate nature, bikini line hair removal doesn’t tend to get discussed as often as some other types of body hair treatments. But, as many laser technicians can tell, the demand for bikini laser hair removal has skyrocketed in recent years, as more and more people seek to escape the pain and hassle of traditional pubic hair removal methods like shaving and waxing.

Hollywood Bikini – No hair at all !

Brazilian Bikini – Only a small patch left on top.

Normal Bikini – All borders but natural look.

Extended Bikini – Like normal bikini but a bit more on the sides

Treatment Tips

Pre Treatment Requirements
Do not bleach or use depilatory cream for at
least 2-3 weeks prior to your 1st treatment and stop using for the duration of the laser course.
No waxing, plucking, or threading at least 1 month prior to your treatment and stop for the duration of your laser course.
Only shave or cut the hair
For best results shave the area at least 24 hours prior to your treatment.
Body or facial scrubs 1 week prior to or after treatment only. Do not exfoliate 2-3 days either side of your laser treatment.
Laser treatments cannot be done if the client has false tan or a natural tan on the area on the day of treatment.
You must use an SPF 25-30 on the area of treatment during sun exposure and summer months.
During Treatment
Please shave 24 hours prior to your treatment. Shaving the same day as treatment leaves the skin more irritated
and prone to reaction and settings must be lowered.
Therapie Clinic cannot be responsible for shaving; this is up to the client. We cannot do the treatment on the day if the area is not prepared.
Always insure your laser therapist of any change of medication since your last visit.
Please make sure fake tan is not present on day of appointment.
After Treatment
Treated area may be red or swollen which can last from 2-3 hours up to 2-3 days.
Avoid itching or tight fitted clothing to avoid any further irritation.
Apply Aloe Vera to reduce any discomfort
For the next 24-48 hours after the treatment the following activities should NOT be carried out:

  • No hot showers or baths – tepid water only
  • No heat treatments such as sauna, Jacuzzi or steam rooms should be used
  • No excessive sweating or workouts
  • No deodorants, perfumed or scented body lotions to be applied
  • No swimming in chlorinated water
  • Nothing that will be create heat to the area
