iPixel: A Brief Introduction To An Effective Way To Flawless Skin

While we may not yet have figured out how to make a time machine, we have come a long way in terms of revolutionary technology, and we can now take 10 years off the appearance of our skin. Innovative laser treatments such as the iPixel procedure combine heat and light technology to totally rejuvenate and resurface our complexion. So, if we can’t travel back in time, at least our skin can!

The iPixel treatment can be used for a range of issues including; pigmentation, sun damage, reducing the signs of ageing and to improve acne scarring.

Is this treatment for me?

Everyone loves when summer arrives and the sun comes out, particularly in Ireland, where it tends to be a rarity! Unfortunately, we often overindulge on sunny days and forget to look after our skin. Excess sun exposure can cause hyperpigmentation such as unsightly sun spots or liver spots, and is the number one cause of wrinkles and other signs of ageing.

The iPixel procedure boosts collagen and elastin production. This means that the structure of the skin is improved, resulting in a smoother complexion, and overall better texture and tone. Collagen helps to regenerate the turnover of new cells, ridding skin of old, dead cells and allowing for a refreshed and more youthful appearance.

If you are concerned about any pigmentation, lines or wrinkles, the iPixel treatment can target these specific areas without requiring a complete overhaul to the skin.

Similarly, if you suffer or previously suffered from acne, the iPixel treatment is a great way to dramatically improve scarring, blemishes or pitting, as well as reduce the size of your pores and even out the surface of the skin.

It is not only used for the face but can also be used across several different areas of the body including the neck, backs of hands and décolletage.

How does it work?

The iPixel treatment is a modern laser system which applies intense bursts of laser energy onto damaged skin cells. The laser targets tiny, microscopic areas of skin- known as ‘pixels’ in the epidermis and upper dermis. The procedure involves the process of photothermolysis, which combines heat and light to break down these damaged skin cells, repair them and stimulate the production of new cells.

The newer technology of the iPixel laser is much more advanced and less invasive than traditional ablative laser treatments. Older resurfacing procedures remove the whole surface layer of the skin while the iPixel ensures that the majority of the skin is left perfectly intact. Only the minute, damaged areas are targeted and treated, allowing skin to heal much faster and leave you with perfect, flawless skin that looks so much younger and full of vitality.

How long does each treatment take and how many will I need?

Usually it is recommended to undergo a course of 4-6 treatments, one every four to six weeks. Each session only takes approx. 30 minutes and you can get a top-up treatment every 6-12 months if you wish.

Is iPixel painful?

No, a cooling device is used to ensure minimum pain during the treatment. The majority of patients tolerate it very well and liken it to the snap of an elastic band against the skin. Due to the heat technology, skin may feel as though you have a slight sunburn after the treatment.

How much downtime is necessary and how long before I will be able to see results?

iPixel requires very little downtime as it is non-surgical and non-ablative. Recovery time is far less than other, traditional laser procedures as only damaged areas of the skin are targeted by the laser, leaving surrounding areas untouched. After the treatment, your skin may be red for a few days and may also be quite dry. Make sure to moisturise regularly for at least a week after your session.

Results vary from person to person but most notice visible results in the texture, tone and pigmentation about a week after the first treatment. For improvements in fine lines, wrinkles and elasticity of skin, more significant results can be seen after a few sessions. Collagen production in the skin continues after the course has ended so effects may still be noticeable for up to six months after the final session.
