Laser works to remove hair by targeting the dark pigment (melanin) in the hair shaft; where the light energy from the laser converts to heat and destroys the follicle for long-lasting hair removal.
This means that laser works best on darker hair against lighter skin, so when you come for your free initial consultation our therapists will explain how best to prepare for treatment. Tanning (real or spray) is not recommended as it minimises contrast between the hair pigment and the skin, making it hard for the laser to ‘find’ the hair.
As a course of treatments is required to ensure the laser can impact all of the hair in its growth cycle, they will also explain what to do before, during and after each treatment session and how best to care for your skin.
Prepare for your First Laser Hair Removal Treatment
Do not bleach or use depilatory creams for at least 2-3 weeks prior to your 1st treatment and stop using for the duration of the laser course.
No waxing, plucking or threading at least 1 month prior to your treatment and stop for the duration of your laser course.
Laser treatments cannot be done if the client has false tan or a natural tan on the area on the day of treatment.
Only shave or cut the hair in between treatments.
For best results shave the area at least 24 hours prior to your treatment.
Body or facial scrubs 1 week prior to or after treatment only.
You must use an SPF 25-30 on the area of treatment during sun exposure and summer months.
During your Laser Hair Removal Treatment Course
Therapie Clinic cannot be responsible for your shaving. We cannot do the treatment on the day if the area is not prepared.
No waxing, plucking or threading for the duration of your laser course. Only shaving is allowed.
Please shave 24 hours prior to your treatment. Shaving the same day as treatment leaves the skin more irritated and prone to reaction.
Always insure your laser therapist of any change of medication since your last visit.
Please make sure fake or natural tan is not present on the day of treatment.
After your Laser Hair Removal Treatment
For the next 24-48 hours after the treatment the following activities should NOT be carried out: swimming, sauna, jacuzzi, steam rooms, hot showers or baths.
Avoid itching or tight fitted clothing to avoid any further irritation.
Avoid sun exposure on the area being treated COMPLETELY. Wear SPF 25-30 at all times
Apply Aloe Vera gel to the treated area as it may be red or swollen. The redness can last from 2-3 hours up to 2-3 days.
