How it works?
For treating pigmentation, the Luminette IPL release precisely controlled very short pulses of filtered light that are absorbed by the melanin in freckles, sun spots or pigmentation. The light heats up these darker areas and destroys them. They are then removed by skin renewal and will gradually flake away and disappear completely over the period of a couple of weeks.
In a similar way, when treating thread veins the filtered light is absorbed by the blood vessels close to the surface of the skin, heating them to a point where they are then destroyed and absorbed by the body. Following the treatment the vessels clear and little or no trace is left of the original lesion.
A different method is used for skin rejuvenation. The wavelengths of light penetrate deep into the skins tissue to stimulate the cells beneath. The body’s own defences illuminate injured tissue and dead skin cells promoting collagen and new youthful skin to the surface. Is there any down time and does it hurt?
The sensation of the treatment depends on what concerns you may have. It has been most commonly described as a quick flick and heat on the area. The discomfort is moderate and goes away completely after the treatment. There is no real down time, only slight redness on the treated area. This may look like sunburn and will go down shortly after each treatment.
Am I suitable for the treatment?
Almost anyone can be treated apart from very dark skin tones or tanned skin. When treating thread veins, only red or purple veins will respond to the IPL. When treating pigmentation, spots that are raised cannot be treated. Also if you are on any particular medication such as Roaccutane, antibiotics and anti-inflametries, or if you are pregnant or breast feeding, the treatment should be postponed.
How many treatments will I need? how long do the treatments take?
Each treatment can take between 15-45minutes depending on the size of the area being treated. Each treatment should be between 2 and 3 weeks apart and the amount of treatments needed will also depend on how aggressive the area being treated is. We recommend between 3 – 6 treatments.
