An Effective Solution for Stretch Marks at Thérapie Clinic

Almost three quarters of all women in Northern Ireland will be all too familiar with the inconvenience of stretch marks on skin.

Stretch marks are often mistakenly thought to be an ugly side effect of being overweight, but in fact they are merely a symptom of skin that has been stretched beyond its natural flexibility.

When the elastic middle layer of the skin known as the dermis is put under strain, it tears and a stretch mark will appear on the skin’s surface.

In order to effectively treat stretch marks and reduce their visibility on the skin, the original tear in the dermis must be repaired.

How can I get rid of my stretch marks?

Medical Micro-Needling at Thérapie is a proven treatment for stretch marks that promotes the production of collagen in the body.

Collagen is the body’s natural healing agent and when produced in concentrated amounts during Medical Micro-Needling, it repairs the ripped dermis so that the outer surface of the skin no longer shows signs of stretch marks.

Why do I have stretch marks?

Stretch marks tend to first appear during puberty when the body undergoes a rapid period of growth, but they can also form in adulthood, commonly because of fluctuating weight, hormonal changes, pregnancy and certain physical activities, e.g. body building.

Stretch marks can appear virtually anywhere on the body, but frequently are found in areas where fat can be easily stored, such as the torso, breasts, thighs, and upper arms.

Why do stretch marks change colour?

When the dermis is overstretched and a stretch mark first appears, it is usually a raised red or pink rippled line in the skin. This is because blood vessels have been damaged in the dermis.

The blood vessels gradually begin to heal which causes the stretch mark to turn purple or a shade of brown.

With time, as the scar tissue begins to form in the dermis, the mark will flatten and fade to a shade of white or seem translucent, depending on your natural skin colour.

How many Micro-Needling treatments will I need?

Medical Micro-Needling works by rolling very fine needles over the area affected by stretch marks.

These needles puncture the dermis layer of the skin so that the body will generate collagen and begin repairing the tear which caused a stretch mark to appear.

At your initial consultation, your stretch marks will be assessed and a course of treatment will be outlined, but usually, it takes 4-6 treatments of Medical Micro-Needling to see visible results.
